Robert Schuller\u2019s world-famous Crystal Cathedral \u2013 will be celebrated virtually in keeping with COVID-19 pandemic regulations.\r\n\r\nFor America\u2019s newest Catholic cathedral, these historic events mark a different way of celebrating the year\u2019s holiest liturgical season. These celebrations are in line with the recently-dedicated cathedral\u2019s innovative, forward-facing vision.\r\n\r\nFaithful Catholics can participate in many languages \u2013 including Spanish, Vietnamese, and others \u2013 through livestreamed services on Facebook, Vimeo, and other platforms, both from Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove and from many of the Diocese of Orange\u2019s 57 Catholic parishes and five centers.\r\n\r\n\u201cWhile we struggle with our inability to worship together in our churches in the usual manner, we view this challenging time as an opportunity to grow spiritually and draw closer to our Catholic faith,\u201d says Most Rev.\u00a0Kevin Vann, Bishop of Orange. \u201cWhile our parishes remain physically closed, our pastors and priests continue to minister to their communities via phone, email and social media.\u201d\r\n\r\nIn preparation for Easter and in praying for a swift end to the coronavirus crisis, Bishop Vann prays the Rosary at 4 p.m. Tuesdays in front of the mosaic of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Christ Cathedral. The prayer is livestreamed on Facebook and at Christ CathedralMass.com to Catholic viewers across Orange County and beyond.\r\n\r\nThis year\u2019s Holy Week services will look much different. Palm Sunday will be livestreamed and parishes will distribute blessed palm fronds at a later date. Confessions \u2013 the Sacrament of Reconciliation \u2013 and Stations of the Cross are cancelled.\r\n\r\nCandidates for baptism in the Roman Catholic Church \u2013 who usually are elected and accepted during the Great Easter Vigil service \u2013 will be received into full communion with the church at a later date. Thus Easter Vigil services will be different, although they will still include the Service of Light, the Liturgy of the Word, and the Holy Eucharist.
