Presented by Fr. Timothy Peters, professor of Biblical Theology at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo, CA.
Where: Saint Martin de Porres Church, Yorba Linda, CA
When: Friday, Nov. 17, Dec 1 and Dec. 15, from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.Presentations will include:
- Job Chapter 1-2 – Introduction, Job’s sufferings, loses his possessions, his children and his health. Special features in the Hebrew Bible.
- Job Chapters 3 ‒ Job’s response to his suffering and his three friends. Examining the assumptions about sin and suffering.
- Job Chapters 4-14 ‒ Understanding the three rounds of debate in the book of Job. Questions concerning God’s divine action or non-intervention.
- Job Chapter 15‒26 ‒ Suffering, death and Job’s redeemer
- Job Chapters 27 and 37 ‒ Job speaks a total of ten times. Job’s longing for God and the question of righteousness. The unique role of Elihu and the rhetoric of his words.
- Job chapters 38-40 ‒ Job finally encounters the Lord in the tempest/whirlwind and the Lord responds to Job.
The Biblical Institute in the Diocese of Orange presents these short retreats with the goal of inspiring the faithful to continually study Sacred Scripture. All are welcomed to attend. Those wishing to take more courses in The Biblical institute may take these retreats as part of their introductory preparation. More information will be provided during our retreat.
