GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2022) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange will be hosting the Orange County Walk for Life 2022, a pro-life demonstration sponsored by the Orange County chapter of the Knights of Columbus on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m. on the Christ Cathedral campus.

The event, which kicks off Respect Life Month, will feature a eucharistic procession with thousands of the faithful from around the region descending upon and processing around the 34-acre cathedral campus. The demonstration will also include pro-life speakers and organizations giving briefings on why the community should vote against Prop 1, the ballot initiative that seeks to further enshrine a destructive culture of abortion in California.

Orange County Walk for Life is a grass-roots movement that started with local Knights of Columbus chapters and is being held for the first time at Christ Cathedral, the spiritual home of the Bishop of Orange and a major center of Catholic worship for the West Coast.

“The public witness standing up for a culture of life is critically important now more than ever,” said Mark McElrath, master of ceremonies for the Walk for Life speakers program. “It’s critical that we stand together in solidarity with the most vulnerable people. Let’s act together and walk, deeply rooted in the universal teachings of Christ present not only in the Eucharist but also in ourselves.”

In attendance at the demonstration will be Bishop Kevin Vann; Bishop Timothy Freyer; Bishop Thanh Thai Nguyen; and Fr. Bao Thai, Christ Cathedral’s rector.

Also in attendance will be Fr. Sy Nguyen, Holy Family Catholic Church’s pastor and chaplain of the Orange County Knights of Columbus chapter; Fr. Al Baca, chaplain of the Steering Committee for the Walk for Life 2022; and Fr. John Grace, retired supreme chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Order.

Prior to the Walk for Life, the cathedral campus is hosting an international rosary and trilingual Mass in front of its Our Lady of La Vang Shrine starting at 8:30 a.m., with Bishop Vann presiding.
