Christ Fest 2017′ Will Feature an ALL-HISPANIC Evening of Musical Inspiration, Energy and Fun; Top-Rated Christian Contemporary Pop Combines with Tradition Latin Themes – SEPT. 8 Garden Grove, Calif., (July 24, 2017) –An unprecedented all-Hispanic evening of contemporary Christian rock/pop music complemented by traditional mariachi and cross-over operatic and inspirational performances by top-billing artists comes to the beautiful 34-acre Christ Cathedral campus, Friday, Sept 8. Offering in Spanish something for everyone, the performance menu features #1 Latin hit maker Christian pop group, an ‘America’s Got Talent’ finalist, an acclaimed mariachi band and – Contemporary Christian Music’s newest international sensation – SIERVAS, the ‘Rocking Nuns from Peru.” “The Diocese of Orange serves a large and diverse Hispanic population. Among this community are distinct Latin cultures; each with their own music and performance traditions. The decision to add a separate evening of all-Spanish performances to this year’s Festival pays tribute to the broad canvas Latin music represents and to the thousands of Hispanic Catholics our diocese is fortunate to include,” said Deacon Guillermo Torres, Director of Hispanic Ministries, Diocese of Orange. Headlining the Sept. 8 playbill is “SIERVAS” – the remarkable South American rock/pop group comprised of 11 CATHOLIC NUNS. The group’s members live in a convent near Lima, Peru and represent seven different South American nationalities and cultures; its members bring their individual talents and flair to every SIERVAS performance! Now a music-sensation all across South America and Spanish-speaking Europe – SIERVAS makes its ‘formal’ USA debut at Christ Fest 2017. The group has performed for Pope Francis and their concerts attract thousands. Their latest CD ‘Hoy Despierto’ is gaining global attention. Just to be clear: These NUNS Rock – and – they also INSPIRE. The five-hour performance menu will be ushered in by the acclaimed performance and recording artists, Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández, a platinum selling mariachi band based in LA that embraces the romanticism of Mexico’s land, people and beauty of the heart. To further demonstrate the broad range of Latin/Hispanic music, the Diocese of Orange is honored to present one of Mexico’s leading opera singers, international classical crossover soprano, Barbara Padilla. Ms. Padilla recently toured with late Mexican super-star Juan Gabriel. Her career also maps a personal journey of faith and musical success; a cancer-survivor having beaten all odds Ms. Padilla recently captured American hearts as a finalist on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ Jumping from mariachi to traditional arias to prayerful vocalizations – the program switches pace and ‘attitude’ when #1 Latin Christian Contemporary hit makers – “SonBy4” – take the stage. The Puerto Rican pop stars come to Orange County for the first time and bring with them the energy and enthusiasm young Christian pop best represents – this time – with a Puerto Rican Latin verve that further defines the expansive Hispanic musical tapestry that is today a driving element of Contemporary Christian music. “Here, in one night of stellar performances, lovers of all forms of Latin and Contemporary Christian music will come together under the stars surrounded by the beautiful campus gardens, buildings and lawns. With food courts, wine garden and other amenities, ChristFest 2017 continues its development as a signature event for the Diocese and region. It is our hope that Hispanic / Latin music lovers will come, enjoy and be inspired as SIERVAS, Mariachi Sol de México de Jose Hernandez, SonBy4 and Barbara Padilla deliver soulful inspiration flavored by the emotion and heartbeat of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Peru and all of South America,” Torres concluded.
