BACKGROUND

I was born on January 22nd in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora in Mexico in a normal Catholic family, I have two older sisters. I grew up in Sonora and I was always in a Catholic School, from the Christian Brothers of La Salle, from kinder garden to university. The ministry that I have done in my life are Altar Servers and Eucharistic Ministers. About my faith background I can say that faith has always been an important part of my family, when we were little my parents always took us to mass, but when we grew up they never made me practice it, they gave us the liberty to do it and I think that it was a good way because there was a time that I walked a little bit away from faith but the Lord is always present and he is a gentleman so he was waiting for my return and I think that there was a time that I had another encounter with him but it has been a personal relationship now.

What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?

I think that the invitation from God it has always been there, when I was in fifth grade, one religious’ brother from my school came to our classroom and talk to us about the mission that he was doing in Africa, seeing it from now I think that that talk was the seed of my calling but now I can realize it back then I couldn’t see that. It was until I was in my last year of high school that I decided to go to one mission in a need community and seeing the spiritual need of the people I think that God move again my hearth to tell me that maybe that was the path that he wanted me to take, but I was young at that time so I decided to study a career before discerning my vocation, and I keep saying later I will discern, until after a lot of nights that there was this question of what if I was call for priesthood, I decided to discern and enter the seminary.

Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?

There is one special priest that is a missionary in the mountains of my state he is a capuchin friar seeing his love, kind and service it’s like seeing Jesus, the way he treats others and the way he prays and celebrates mass for me it was an invitation to priesthood.

Describe the moment that you knew you wanted to take the next steps to become a priest?

When I started to get involved at my parish, when I start going to mass every day and have that encounter with Jesus at the Eucharist and also in every mission in the treat with my brothers and sisters, seeing the example of good priests, in my heart was that invitation.
