The Diocese of Orange welcomes all those who work in the healthcare and mental health fields to attend with their families and receive a special blessing. Awards and cocktail reception to follow the Mass. The White Mass dates back to the late 1800s and is held often near October 18, the feast day of St. Luke the Evangelist, the patron saint of physicians and surgeons. The Healthcare Professional Mass is traditionally known as the “White Mass” because of the white lab coats worn by many who work in the healthcare profession.
