Theological Implications of Alien Life

Fr. William Goldin, Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe-La Habra, is truly delighted to announce a new series of one-evening theology, dinner, and themed cocktail events, opening on August 30th. Many people have questions about the Catholic Church’s position on strange occurrences, and often people incorrectly think that the Church is afraid to discuss such matters. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Church isn’t afraid of the truth, whatever that truth might suggest, about the universe or the world. All truth, if it is real, comes from the Holy Spirit. And so, in order that we might think about such strange and often numinous topics, OLG-La Habra is launching a new Symposium series: The Mysterium Encounter Symposium Series, a Three-Night Symposium series, taking place once every few months on Saturday, August 30th, 2025Saturday, November 1st, 2025, and Saturday, January 31st, 2026!

The first symposium of our Mysterium Encounter Symposium Series will cover the Theological Implications of Alien Life. Fr. William Goldin will be hosting and moderating this symposium, and OLG-La Habra will have three speakers discussing how our theological tradition grapples with the possibility of aliens and extraterrestrial life, especially in view of the ongoing Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Hearings taking place in the US Congress. Our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Paul Thigpen, is a world-renowned theologian and journalist, whose book, Extraterrestrial Intelligence and the Catholic Faith, is a ground-breaking work on the topic. He will be joined by Fr. Thomas Davenport, OP, from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. Fr. Davenport holds a PhD in Physics from Stanford University, whose work in the hard sciences involves theoretical particle physics, and who is also a professor of the philosophy of science in Rome. Our third speaker, providing the theology of the Fathers of the Church, will be Dr. Tikhon A. Pino, the Director of the Pappas Patristics Institute in Boston. In addition to great theological, philosophical, and scientific discussion, we will also be having themed cocktails, dinner, and… a tinfoil hat competition! We hope to see you there! Registrations are limited, so sign up now to reserve your spot! Alien Symposium Final Final
