Justice Ministry

Detention Ministry (DM) is first and foremost a ministry of presence. We communicate the Good News of God’s unconditional love and mercy to those incarcerated. We affirm each person, not necessarily their behavior, and invite them to grow as sons and daughters of God. Our work takes place within the facilities we serve and extends to the families and community outside. We recognize our responsibility to educate those who have not experienced the people we serve as valuable individuals created in God’s image. We are called to advocate for the poor and marginalized; the hungry, thirsty, naked, stranger, sick and…..the imprisoned; we see our mission not as an act of charity but as a living of the central mission of the Gospel.

Survivors of Crime is a ministry within the Restorative Justice Office that seeks to accompany and support those friends, family, and community suffering from such a tragic loss. Through Healing Circle support groups, survivors can express their overwhelming grief and emotional suffering and over time, with the support of others, come to reconcile their loss. Our mission is to be a sign of God’s presence for those seeking healing from the trauma of losing a loved one by homicide or severe violence. Losing a love one through homicide is one of the most traumatic experiences that an individual can face. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” – Psalm 34:18
