BACKGROUND

I was born and raised by my two parents and older sister in Southern California. After attending California State University, Fullerton, I received both a bachelor’s and a graduate degree in Communication Studies. Ministries that bring me joy are the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement, Eucharistic Minister, and leading retreats for youth and young adults. 

What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?

The priesthood was in the back of my mind and on the back burner for as long as I can remember. I gave myself many excuses to avoid applying to the Seminary. From continuing my education, dating, to working at my “dream job.” Still, the thought of priesthood was present, and the void of exploring something deeper grew. Therefore, I knew God wouldn’t give up, so I had to give it a chance. 

Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?

Besides the many priests, friends, and family that I had met along my journey, God has always been the prime motivator that influenced my priesthood discernment. He was patient and accompanied me along the way wherever I decided to explore. He knows my imperfections, limitations, and sinfulness, but yet He still extends the invitation. The same invitation that I wrestled with and avoided many years ago. 

Describe the moment that you knew you wanted to take the next steps to become a priest?

After discovering my sister was pregnant with her husband, I witnessed a more profound sense of joy in her, my brother-in-law, and my parents. I realized that finding your vocation radiates joy and peace for others. In discerning those feelings, I wanted to explore and find my vocation.
