BACKGROUND
I was born in West Virginia and attended Catholic primary and high school. Prior to moving to California I worked as a realtor and antique appraiser outside of Washington DC. In California I have been involved with the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement as well as several other faith formation programs in Orange County.
What are some of the factors that led to your decision to enter the seminary and discern the question of a vocation to the priesthood?
Growing up I always had a strong faith background and several very good priests as an example in my life. As I got older and started reflecting on my experiences I became aware that I had something to share with others that could bring them closer to Christ and His love.
Who are some of the people who influenced your decision to enter the seminary? What is it about them that assisted you?
The first person who influenced my decision to discern the priesthood was parish priest growing up. He was an elderly Franciscan who was one of the most patient people I have ever known and helped to foster my love for the Eucharist and ministry.
Describe the moment that you knew you wanted to take the next steps to become a priest?
I felt a calling for a while since my freshman year of college but ran from it. The exact moment I know this was truly what God’s plan was for me was one day walking to my car after work. I passed a Catholic Church and went in to pray. As I knelt in front of the tabernacle I heard “Thomas why are you running from this?”. At that moment tears started rushing down my face and I knew that I must embrace this call.
